How/when did yoga come into your life? What does yoga mean to you?
During my studies I became acquainted with Hatha yoga. After that it fell into oblivion, until yoga came back on my path in early 2017. I started with Jivamukti yoga (a form of Ashtanga yoga). I tried Yin yoga but I found that difficult, I couldn't sit still for a long time and I kept crossing my limits. After a year I became more acquainted with Yin yoga and it turned out to be a hit! I could use some softness and peace at that time.
Yin yoga has helped me a lot to get back in touch with my body. To feel where there is space, where it pinches, how I can relax again and what I need. I learned to listen to my body and take better care of myself. I wanted to deepen this meditative, gentle form of yoga and share it with others. Because what it brings me I also wish others. That's why I did the 200-hour Yin Yoga teacher training at De Yoga Studio. Since then I have enjoyed teaching yin yoga in various studios.
What does yoga mean to you?
After a few years of Yin yoga it was time to develop my yang side again. I have built my Ashtanga practice through Mysore classes. For me a very nice teaching form; this way I learn to do the Asthanga practice at my own pace. This allows me to know and respect my limits.
What can students expect in your class? What do you want to pass on to your students?
Yoga has taught me a lot. In addition to more space, strength and flexibility, I have more patience, I can accept myself and certain situations better and I have come to really appreciate the principle of 'small steps'. With small steps you can move forward sustainably, without too many injuries! And every time it turns out that you can do more than you thought. I'm getting to know myself better and this gives me confidence.
I have now also completed the 200-hour Ashtanga Yoga teacher training. To deepen my own practice and nice that I can now also offer more active yoga classes.
In my lessons I want to offer peace and slow down from there. We focus on the feeling in your body and on your breathing. So you can look for your limits. To then respect and accept it. This brings you closer to yourself. I would love to go looking for relaxation and balance with you!
