Fareweel to teachers
SEPARATION, LOSS, GRIEF and MEANING
Who is an important teacher for you?
Not so long ago, together with fellow trainers and coaches, I said goodbye to an important teacher.
Today we once again say goodbye to an important teacher for me.
Ashtanga Yoga has been an important source of inspiration for me for a long time. And the current “lineage holder”, Sharath Jois, passed away yesterday. I have had the privilege of deepening my yoga practice under his tutelage a number of times in Mysore India.
Yoga is the oldest system of personal development in the world, and it involves body, mind and soul. In Eastern philosophy it is said that man has forgotten why he is here. With all the impressions that come to us from outside, we have lost contact with our Self and our soul.
The journey within
Many of us have lost the ability to sense things and turn to others for understanding and meaning, while the answers lie deep within us. The answers lie within us, but it takes discipline and courage to rediscover that forgotten wisdom.
Magic in the encounter
“Fieke, meditating alone on a mountain won't get you any further.”
Touché, that was what someone mirrored to me when I had found my way in and could no longer come out. Actually isolated myself in contact from previous painful experiences.
Meditating alone in nature, in a distant ashram, is not such a problem. But actually bringing out your inner world, your authentic self in the encounter and connection with others, that is what it is really about.
Then magic can take place. Only then can connection and intimacy arise and deepen and everyone's full potential can blossom.
This contact, from the heart, opens the door to connection at soul level.
Today I will once again reflect on the significance of my teachers.
And you? Who was or is an important teacher for you?
